Survival Basics

ShelterSurvival skills are methods that people who are in a dangerous situation might have to use in order to save themselves or other people. In general, these methods are supposed to provide one with the basic necessities required for human life. Shelter, food, water and the ability to think are all that one requires if they plan on surviving in the wild for any period of time. This is especially the case if you want to get to safety or avoid any potentially deadly encounters with wildlife. These survival skills can often just be very basic principles that are designed to help one stay safely for extended periods of time in a remote situation. Many people in fact learn these skills not for just survival but for the sheer enjoyment of having the skills available should they need it in the future. Also it is great for recreational pursuits.

One of the first things you should do when you have established that you are in danger or lost is to build yourself some sort of shelter. This will help protect you from the elements. This is especially important in cold, wet climates where the surroundings can really take a toll on the human body. Not only will a shelter help protect you from the elements but it can also help protect you from insects and of course and dangerous animals that might be around.

You often do not have to build a shelter and can actually use natural shelters such as caves or even fallen over trees. With a bit of imagination you can rustle up some quality shelter in no time at all. If you are lucky enough to have a few tools you can easily cut down a few trees and create a “lean to” or even just dug a ditch into the ground or snow and shelter there. Your shelter is really only limited by your imagination.Fire

Fire is also a very important factor in you staying alive in the wild. Even in the desert while it may be hot during the day, at night these places can become a cold and deadly environment. It is always a good idea to take some kind of device whether it be water proof matches or a flint whenever you venture out into the great outdoors as these tools really can become life savers. If you don’t have these tools then you must be aware of the techniques to create fire naturally should you become lost in the outdoors. These can range from rubbing sticks together to taking broken glass and using it as a magnifying glass to create heat and fire.

Fire is an important tool for a number of reasons. Firstly the physiological factors it provides the individual, humans are comforted by warm surroundings and when you are in a stressful situation such as being in a survival situation it becomes even more important. Even more you can cook food on an open fire and of course if you are in the situation where a dangerous animal is threatening you then you can use the fire to help ward off that danger. Additionally if you are in the situation where you are waiting for help then you will need a signal fire of some sort to attract their attention, this is why it is so important.

Fire is also very important if you have had surgery of any type or are impaired due to a recent injury or surgical procedure. If you have recently had surgery then it’s probably not a good idea to be in the wilderness at all anyway and if you wound becomes infected then the prospect of being in danger is obvious. I recently read of a person who spend hours looking for Tummy Tuck Prices online, had the tummy tuck surgery performed then only 3 weeks later went out camping, got lost and ended up with a horrrific infection to her tummy tuck scar.
